Some people come into your life loud. Big promises. Big opinions. Big loyalty talk. And somehow… when the wind picks up, they’re gone. Those are the ones you gotta be leery of. The friends who clap the loudest in public but disappear when it gets uncomfortable. The friends who love you as long as you stay the same size, the same version, the same level.My friend Beth told me once and I’ve never forgotten it, “I’d rather have four quarters than a hundred pennies.” Whew. Ain’t that the truth. I don’t need a crowd. I need a few who show up. The people or person who will tell you the truth even when it’s hard. The one who won’t get quiet when you’re hurting. The one who won’t compete with your growth. I heard another person say we meet people in three categories. Leaves, branches, and roots. Leaves are seasonal. They blow in, they blow out. They were never meant to stay. Branches will fool ya, they hang on for a while, but when life gets heavy, some of them break and that hurts… because you thought they were stronger. But roots? Roots stay. They hold you steady. They don’t need attention. They don’t need applause. They feed into you. They quietly keep you grounded when storms roll through. Some friendships fade gently. Some break suddenly. Both can be painful. But neither means you failed. It just means the season changed
So if your circle got smaller, don’t panic. That’s not loss. That’s refinement. Protect your peace. Choose quarters over pennies and love the roots… they’re rare. Rise n shine, sunshine.
