Mornin’ Coffee Musings
You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup.
I think sometimes we forget that loving others starts with loving ourselves. We want to show up for everybody, the kids, the grandbabies, the spouse, the friends, the folks at work, even strangers on the internet and before we know it, we’re runnin’ on fumes. Our hair’s in a messy bun, our heart’s a little brittle and we can’t figure out why everything feels heavier than it should.
Here’s a little truth I’ve had to learn the hard way: you can’t pour from an empty cup. You can’t fill someone else up if you’re bone dry.
Sometimes loving yourself looks like takin’ a nap instead of answering one more text. It looks like saying no without explaining why. It looks like walking outside barefoot with your coffee and breathing in quiet. It looks like letting the laundry wait while you sit still long enough to feel your heart slow down.
Rest isn’t lazy. It’s holy.
Boundaries aren’t selfish. They’re healthy….and self-love isn’t vanity. It’s maintenance. You are not built to run on empty. So today, I hope you slow down. I hope you rest, refill, recharge….whatever that looks like for you. Read a book, take a bath, laugh till you snort, pray, cry, or dance in your kitchen to an old 80s song. Fill your own cup, because when you do, you’ll find you’ve got a whole lot more love to pour into the world around you.
Let’s stop trying to save everyone else while we’re silently sinking. Fill your cup. You deserve to be full, too.
Love you,
Kari
